Paul Stamets

World guru in the field of mycology. This American scientist has devoted a lifetime to researching the properties of fungi. The discoveries he has made are the benchmark for those interested in taking these substances. His tests based largely on tracking what significance mushrooms have in different cultures. Paul Stamets has not only proven their salutary effects, but also advances the theory that mushrooms can save our increasingly damaged planet.

Biography of Paul Stamets

Paul Stamets was born in Salem, Ohio in 1955. As a young boy and teenager, he was very secretive and had problems interacting with his peers. This was mainly due to the fact that he stuttered a lot. Instead, social alienation made him apply himself very much to his studies. Paul's greatest talent was revealed in the natural sciences. He spent long hours in the laboratory set up in the basement of his house. Years later, the scientist joked that his stuttering caused him to often direct his gaze toward the ground, which is where they grow mushrooms.

Even as a teenager, Stamets tried for the first time to take the mushrooms that so fascinated him. The effects he noticed in himself were downright amazing. From then on, it can be said that mushrooms completely captured him and he fully devoted himself to learning about their properties.

Scientific activities of Paul Stamets

Private experience and fascination with science strongly influenced Paul's professional path. Shortly after graduation, the young man founded the company Fungi Perfecti. Its business focuses on the cultivation and sale of various species of mushrooms. Depending on their characteristics, they are intended for direct consumption or as a culinary supplement. Stamets' business also includes education about the plant to which he has dedicated his life. Among other things, you can find his TED Med speech on the Internet, during which he talks about how mushrooms cured his mother's cancer.

His pioneering research has resulted in numerous patents and the discovery of several new species psilocybin mushrooms. Paul continues to be professionally active and promises to make further groundbreaking discoveries. He has written several books that lay the foundations of mycology. The most important titles in his oeuvre, still untranslated into Polish, include such items as: "Psilocybin Mushrooms Of The World", "Mycelium Running" and "Growing Gourmet & Medicinal Mush".
